TEDxYorkUSalon was an independently organized TEDx event. It was hosted by the Chair in ASD Treatment and Care Research at York University in partnership with TEDxYorkU, and built with the help of two partners.

Partner overview

Three groups carried the two salons: the host chair and its university partner, and the two firms that built the site and supported the event.

TEDxYorkUSalon was an independently organized TEDx event hosted by the Chair in ASD Treatment and Care Research at York University, in partnership with TEDxYorkU. The salons brought researchers, practitioners, community members and other stakeholders together around a shared theme of autism, spectrum experiences, and innovations in treatment, care and support. Talks were presented in short, focused sessions on stage, with audience breaks between speakers, allowing ideas to be shared and discussed in an open forum format.

The partnership structure behind the salon combined academic hosting with university-level organizing support. The Chair in ASD Treatment and Care Research at York University acted as host and program supporter, while TEDxYorkU served as the university partner for the independently organized event. This collaboration helped connect research and community perspectives, ensuring that talks addressed concerns relevant to the transition from youth to adulthood and to the wider autism community in the Toronto region.

Alongside the host and university partner, two commercial partners contributed practical support for the event, including building the website and helping run the salons. Their involvement illustrates how independently organized TEDx events often rely on a small number of committed organizations to realize ambitious programs. By pooling academic, community and technical resources, the partners helped create an accessible, interactive setting in which presenters could share research findings and lived experience with a broad, engaged audience.

Recordings of the salon talks remain available, so the ideas presented onstage continue to reach people beyond the room. Videos and playlists allow viewers to revisit sessions on autism innovations, spectrum concerns and community care, and to share them with colleagues, families and students. For anyone interested in the topics explored at TEDxYorkUSalon, the published program and talk archives offer an enduring point of entry, connecting past inspiration with current work in autism research, treatment and support.
